In the Land of Fire and Ice

Join us on August 6, 2019 for an Icelandic-Themed Cocktail Reception, Climate Change Discussion & Expedition Kick-Off Event. Hosted & Organised by HER Planet Earth & Just Challenge in support of UN Women UK’s programmes in the Asia region.

In August 2019, our all-female team will embark on an expedition to Iceland to trek across the phenomenal Landmannalaugar region, one of the most active volcanic and alien landscapes located right at the heart of the Southern Icelandic Highlands, all in support of underprivileged women affected by climate change.

The team is formed by a group of 15 intrepid women of diverse nationalities and backgrounds. While they are all incredibly well accomplished in their careers and fields, they are equally passionate about protecting our planet and empowering underprivileged women and girls.

Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Isabelle de Lovinfosse – Sustainability Policy Expert – Previously Senior Policy Adviser on Climate Change & Environment with the UK Government. Dr. de Lovinfosse holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Louvain (Belgium), and was Associate Lecturer in International Environment Policies at the Open University in London. She will talk about the low carbon transition journey – how you can act now in your life, workplace and on expeditions:
measure your carbon footprint, reduce your GHG emission and offset through guaranteed sustainable projects.

All proceeds from the event and the expedition will go to UN Women UK, a charity dedicated to empowering women globally by removing the barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their potential.

The funds raised will go towards projects that help underprivileged women affected by climate change and programmes focused on the economic empowerment of women in rural areas of Asia, notably in Bangladesh, Nepal & Vietnam.

The event is free of charge and guests will be treated to a glass of bubbly and some delicious sliders and healthy snacks from our partner, Green Monday, distributors of Beyond Meat in Asia Pacific. We will also discuss the concept that one of the easiest ways to lower our carbon footprint is by choosing the type of foods we consume.

We hope to see many of you there, please keep in mind we will cap the number of guests at about 100, so RSVP as soon as possible on this page.

If you cannot make the event but would like to make a donation to UN Women UK on the team’s fundraising page please visit:
