Free Organic Gardening Workshop

Dear all,

As the third year of running wwedibles.sg (wwe) comes to pass, I am reminded that the platform started with the hopes of sparking ‘social change through soil’. The premise was that a love for the environment and wildlife is best developed through a personal connection with nature. In line with that, I’ve sold countless rare plants, flower boxes to chefs/bakers and conducted workshops/nature walks to provide ‘green’ experiences that Singaporeans from different backgrounds can relate to.

During the span of this project, the most rewarding moments are when I’m told that my work has inspired others to set up their own gardens.

Whilst I’m sure there are a great many who purchase my plants and flower boxes without also buying into wwe’s wider mission/philosophy, I am continuously encouraged by the few who do.

So 3 years on, as a timely reminder of ‘social change through soil’ I am opening my garden to host 30 attendees who are interested in learning how to create and cultivate an organic edible garden (bees and butterflies included) for FREE. Seed-packs will also be given in exchange for your participation.

The 2 HR event programme is outlined below:
I. Introduction to organic farming principles;
– Companion planning for local vegetables
– Soil conditioning
– Beneficial insects in Singapore
– Growing according to local weather conditions
II. List of produce suited for local conditions & growth tips
III. Organic Fertilisers & how to make them
IV. Storing your harvest;
– Fermentation
– Curing
– Drying

There is only one catch.

From now till 28 Sept 2019, You must register/participate in a wildlife/nature volunteer activity and submit evidence of your attendance to me 1 week before the event. Ideally, you should try something which brings you outside your comfort zone. Whilst you may also decide to go out on your own and pick sea litter for example, it would be difficult for me to verify the date you participated in the activity so registration with an organization is preferred. Activities to consider would be:
a. Mangrove/coastal cleanups;
b. Research programmes (horseshoe crabs conservation etc);
c. Causes for Animals Singapore;
d. ACRES;
e. Volunteer at community gardens;
f. Post-marathon clean-ups;
g. Composting drives etc.

Alternatively, you may donate $30.00 (SGD) to any wildlife/nature conservation organization fund and send me a receipt.

You may send the proof of participation/donation to: [email protected] or any of my social media pages. I will respond and register your attendance.

Separately, if you would like to attend the event to contribute your knowledge/experience in organic farming methods please write into me and I will arrange a segment for you.

Please Note: I will not reply to your request to volunteer at social organisations generally, it has to be wildlife/nature related (food rescue/recycling not counted). The event is subject to a minimum participation of 20 pax and will be postponed until the numbers accumulate. I reserve the full discretion to reject your request to attend the event – rest assured this will not be done frivolously, reasons will be provided. I will post a notification on all my pages when the maximum number of 30 pax is reached.
