Green Sights! – A Visit to the Community Gardens

We haven’t done this for a while so we are proud to say that we are back for a third round!

Ever wonder what you can do with those fruit and vegetable peels? Want to set up a compost garden but don’t know how to do it, or where you can contribute your stash? Or just simply curious on how these valuable materials can be turned into compost?

Join us on 25 May for a quick visit around Yishun/ Khatib under our Green Sights! Sign up here now!

We are starting this learning journey to share with like-minded individuals and families about composting, as well as visit some of the community gardens that are flourishing in Singapore. At the end of the walk, we hope that you can take away not just beautiful memories of the walk, but also contacts and connections with other interested individuals in the green community 🙂

Q&A
1. Fees – How much is the tour?
For this 3 hour tour, we are charging $10 per person!

However, we are game enough to be paid in organic peels! We accept fruit / vegetable peels and discounts will be given for every kg of fruit peels 🙂

Note: We do not accept cooked food or meat items for now 🙂

2. Who will be guiding the tour?
Say hi to your tour guide, CY Ong! Chun Yeow is an eco-warrior who started urban farming to grow edibles as an interest and also concern about the modern food production.

Seeing how quickly the environment is being deteriorated by modern consumerism and industrialisation, he believes humanity has to embrace living in harmony with nature to leave this world a better place for the generations to come.

So for more than 5 years, he has been volunteering for the environmental, animal awareness, farming, and non-profit groups while broadening his perspectives, knowledge, and network. He is also a strong supporter of Green Ambassadors and Green Nudge in reducing waste created by sports events.

His dream is to save the world, one garden at a time.

3. Where will we walking around?
Here’s what you can expect over the 3 hour walking tour:
– Understand how fruit and vegetable peels from Green Nudge events are diverted to community gardens or individuals for composting or making eco-enzymes
– Hear and learn about urban and community farming experiences
– Visit a rooftop garden, an award winning community garden and visit a 21st century kampung!

4. What should we bring along?
As we will be walking around for quite a bit, we would encourage you to bring along a full water bottle, some light snacks if you are hungry, camera for photos as well as a curious mind for learning 🙂

5. What attire should I be in?
Come dressed in something comfortable to walk in! We will be touring a few places and will be walking a fair bit, so do wear a pair of comfortable footwear such as shoes or slippers!

6. I can only join in the tour midway/ I need to leave the tour half way. What should I do?
Don’t worry! Let us know in advance and we can make the necessary arrangements! You are still welcome to join us for the tour 🙂

7. What is the group size like?
As the visit will encompass a few areas, we are capping this tour to a maximum of 20 people to facilitate the sharing 🙂

8. Can young kids join in the tour?
Yes! You can! We welcome kids of all ages to join in. However, do let us know in advance so that we can plan the tour accordingly! Also young and old, please note that there will be some active walking all around! 🙂

9. What happens if it rains before or during the tour?
If inclement weather happens before the event, we will inform you via your mobile number whether we can still proceed with the tour. If necessary, we may have to cancel the trip or postpone it to a later date.

If rains occur during the tour, we may have to pause the tour, and wait until the rain stops.

10. I have other questions! Who should I ask?
Sure thing! Drop us a message in Facebook, or directly email us at [email protected]!
