Where to Buy Organic Whole Wheat Flour – A Well Stocked Pantry

October 16, 2016

Whole grains are a must-have in a healthy diet.

They’re rich in fiber, minerals, and vitamins that you can’t find in refined grains.

Unlike refined grains, whole grains have positive effects on your cardiovascular system and metabolism.

One of my favorite whole grains is whole wheat flour.

It’s my go-to flour for making cakes, pancakes, crusts, and breads.

Whole wheat flour gives baked goods a denser consistency and adds a good amount of fiber.

If you have celiac disease or gluten-sensitivity, you can choose gluten-free flours like oat flour instead.

However, if you are not gluten-sensitive, whole wheat flour makes a great addition to your pantry.

Whole-wheat flour is a healthier choice than refined white flour. It can help you with weight management, energy, and heart health. If you haven’t yet, it’s time to make the switch.

Let’s get to know a little more about this whole grain.

A Well Stocked Pantry – Organic Whole Wheat Flour

What is Organic Whole Wheat Flour

Wheat is the third most cultivated cereal worldwide.

In whole wheat flour, the germ and the bran of the grain -which contain the majority of the nutrients- are preserved. That’s why it has a grainier consistency and brown color.

This form of wheat is minimally processed, unlike white flour.

The difference between whole and refined wheat is that the refined version has been stripped from the germ and bran. This removes vital nutrients and minerals.

Because whole wheat and whole grains preserve the fiber, minerals, and vitamins from the grain, studies have shown they can help with weight-loss and reduce fat storage.

Replacing refined wheat with whole-wheat has been shown to reduce inflammation in overweight people and reduce body fat percentage in postmenopausal women.

White flour can spike your blood sugar because the glucose from the carbs goes directly into your bloodstream.

The high content of fiber in whole wheat flour helps to regulate the rate at which the glucose is released into your blood. This prevents blood sugar spikes and energy crashes.

What to look for in buying Organic Whole Wheat Flour

When buying whole wheat flour, make sure it has the word “organic” on the label. This means that the wheat crops have been cultivated with safer methods and don’t contain synthetic pesticide residues.

This is important because wheat is one of the most widely cultivated grains, and the vast majority is cultivated through conventional methods.

The ingredient label of your package should only contain one ingredient: whole wheat flour. Double check your label and make sure no second ingredients have been added.
